Of course you know about New Years Resolutions. We all make them to begin fresh on January 1, but how long do we really go? It's easy to have high hopes, dreams, and goals... but even easier to fall back into our habits.
During our teacher workday on January 5, Mrs. Pajerski introduced the faculty to a new idea. Instead of coming up with a lofty resolution, we were charged to come up with ONE WORD. This is a word that we will keep in our pockets and use in good times and in bad. The word can be as simple as a daily reminder (smile, focus, care) or one that will make you work a little harder than before (succeed, support, grow).
Parents, I challenge you to join Cumming teachers (and some students, too!) to choose one word for 2015 that you will work hard to uphold.
May I recommend a word? Involved. Eight simple letters mean the world to a child. Cumming ES has established an inviting parent involvement program, and we are delighted to have you participate in activities and help with projects! Honestly, CES would not be who we are without the strong and positive support from you. Many new ideas have come about in the past few years: a full time Parent Involvement Coordinator, the red token initiative, and Lunchtime Learning are some of the highlights. We want to keep growing, and need your help.
What is one way you can imagine yourself being more involved? Perhaps helping a teacher prepare for a project from the comfort of your own home (cutting out laminating, creating folder games, etc.) is your cup of tea. Maybe you're more hands on and would like to assist teachers in the classroom with their filing and copying. Do you want to make a difference with the students by listening to them read or practicing math facts? Let me know!
With your ideas and desires, I would like to put together networks of parents who want to be involved in similar ways. The parent-school partnership is important, and it needs to be a solid foundation in the child's education.
My word for the year is hydrate. I intend to hydrate my mind, body, and soul with good, clean essentials of life. I'm excited to create new and unique workshops, networks, and opportunities for you this year, and I hope you will help fill my glass to the brim with ideas, desires, and requests to help you be involved!
Happy 2015!
